Is Botox® Training Right For You?

Are you a medical professional interested in exploring the aesthetics industry and considering Botox® training? With so many course providers, programmes and information online, knowing where to start can often feel overwhelming. You want to be sure that aesthetics training is the right path for you, that you’re receiving high-quality instruction from a respected provider and that you’ll be able to get your career off to the best possible start with a significant return on your investment.

From what to expect when you train to do Botox® to medical experience requirements and future career prospects, we’re laying out the process you’ll follow before, during and after an aesthetics course.

Who can train to do Botox®?

Whilst the law currently states that Botox® must be prescribed by a medical professional but can be administered by anyone, positive changes are coming. The UK government announced in February 2022 that a Botox® and filler license would soon be introduced to regulate the industry, protect patients from underqualified rogue practitioners and raise health and safety standards in aesthetics clinics. Additionally, any reputable aesthetics training provider will limit their training programmes to registered healthcare professionals with the appropriate qualifications — namely doctors, dentists, nurses and pharmacists.

Choosing the right course

When you train to do Botox®, you have several options to suit your budget, background and availability. A foundation-level course is designed and structured especially for beginners. With a blend of pre-learning materials comprising the core principles of facial anatomy and the pharmacology of aesthetics and a training day dedicated to supervised practical training on live models, a comprehensive foundation course can provide you with the skills and knowledge required to begin practising aesthetics the very next day. These short introductory courses are an excellent option for medics with extensive commitments in their current NHS or private practice role, as you can complete theoretical material in your own time, and practical training is generally completed over the course of one day.

The Level 7 Diploma is the most advanced aesthetic training available on the market and allows current and aspiring practitioners to meet Health Education England’s qualification requirements. Although a more significant time and financial commitment than an introductory programme, the Level 7 course covers all foundation and advanced elements of Botox® and filler procedures, building your confidence as an injector and providing you with the credentials and know-how you need for a thriving career in aesthetic medicine. The Level 7 Diploma also has the added benefit of flexibility, allowing you to juggle your other commitments and complete the course over up to 24 months.

Future career opportunities

As a rapidly evolving demand with huge consumer demand growing year-on-year, there has never been a better time to train to do Botox® and dermal filler procedures. A career in aesthetics offers can be highly awarding, and qualified practitioners can expect to benefit from the following:

  • Increased flexibility allows you to choose between obtaining a position within an existing clinic or opening your own practice.
  • Boosted earning potential. Whether you intend to make aesthetics your primary source of income or an additional earning stream, it’s no secret that injectable practitioners can command a high rate of pay for their services. If you choose to open your own clinic and employ other aestheticians, your earning potential is virtually limitless.
  • Improved work-life balance. If your experience up until now has been in the NHS, you may be used to very long shifts and unsociable working hours. As an aesthetician, you can expect to have significantly increased control over your schedule and the freedom to choose where and when you work.
  • A rewarding career that you love. As a medical professional with extensive knowledge of facial anatomy and experience injecting patients, aesthetics is a natural progression at which you are highly likely to flourish. By providing services that empower and boost the confidence of your patients, you can enjoy a fulfilling role and a high level of job satisfaction.

If you’re a healthcare professional who would like to train to do Botox®, booking a course with Acquisition Aesthetics is a fantastic opportunity to obtain gold-standard aesthetics training. Once qualified, you will benefit from an expanded skill set, boosted earning potential and increased control over the flexibility of your working schedule.
