Combined with the extensive added knowledge gained in a complex medical field and the current demand from patients, there’s never been a better time to train. The Acquisition Aesthetics Level 7 Aesthetics Diploma is a gold-standard training academy in clinical aesthetic injectable therapies. We’ve worked with hundreds of medical professionals to provide them with the best dermal filler and botox® training available.

We often get questions from medical professionals interested in learning more about aesthetic medicine training and, specifically, our Level 7 aesthetics course, so we’ve compiled some of the most frequently sought-after information into this post.

What is it?

The Level 7 aesthetics diploma aims to provide an industry-standard qualification in a currently under-regulated sector. Through an intensive mix of practical and theoretical coursework, delegates are armed with the tools they need to begin their career in aesthetic medicine. This is complemented by expert support from our Directors and faculty, who have extensive backgrounds in head and neck surgery and plastic surgery. It’s expected that the Level 7 diploma aesthetics will soon be recognised as the mandatory minimum level of certification to practice aesthetic medicine legally.

Is it mandatory?

Currently, the regulations set out regarding requirements for practicing aesthetic medicine are frustratingly lacking. However, tighter general regulations on non-surgical treatments were implemented after a report by Health Education England (HEE) outlined the required levels of competence for all treatments in the industry.

Because of this, it is an industry-wide expectation that professionals administering non-surgical injections should have completed the Level 7 qualification. This is equivalent to a postgraduate degree.

What are the entry requirements?

The Level 7 Aesthetics course is restricted to doctors, dentists and nurses registered with the relevant medical council. Valid registration with the GMC/GDC/NMC/GPhC or international equivalent is required. We also consider pharmacists, but this is on a case-by-case basis.

Additionally, we require English as a first language or English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 7.0. International students may be accepted if they can demonstrate an equivalent level of education.

What are the main aspects of the course?

The diploma for the Level 7 course is provided through awarding body OTHM Qualifications. There is no final formal examination—all evaluation is done through coursework, directly observed procedural skills (DOPs), critical literature reviews and short essays.

There are four main steps to the process. These include:

  • Practical Portfolio- This includes 40 procedures in toxin and dermal filler modalities, which must be undertaken on mentoring sessions with expert supervision in small training groups.
  • Theoretical Training

We provide access to a vast library of online learning materials. Based upon crucial learning components highlighted by the HEE, this consists of lectures, literature, current evidence, guidelines and forums. Theoretical learning and training videos are also provided.

  • Academic Portfolio

As well as individual research which you can undertake independently, delegates must complete an academic portfolio that comprises referenced essays, a critical appraisal and case studies.

  • Practical Training

You’ll benefit from Foundation and Advanced training days in addition to focused mentoring sessions to complete your portfolio.

How long does it take?

The minimum time commitment for the Level 7 diploma is 6 months, and you must complete it within 36 months. However, it generally takes our delegates anywhere between 6 and 18 months to complete once their training has begun.

Of course, the time frame is always dependent on the individual and their availability at the time. While some of our delegates can commit a large chunk of time each week, many have extensive work and family commitments, which means they may take a little longer.

Will it fit around my schedule?

We understand and appreciate that the healthcare professionals who participate in our courses lead hectic lives. We’ve built our diploma based on this knowledge and firmly believe that all healthcare professionals should have access to Level 7 aesthetic medicine. Because of this, many of our delegates have successfully trained while also working full-time or caring for their family.

All of our training sessions take place at the weekends, and the majority are half days. Additionally, all of our course material can be accessed remotely as an online aesthetics course. There is also no fixed start date, in line with maintaining flexibility—you can enrol and graduate whenever suits you, and our practical training days run frequently.

If something pops up that requires more of your time, you can come back to the course when it suits you; provided you complete it within 36 months, you can work around your schedule.
