Top Tips on Using the Microcannula

When working in the aesthetics industry it’s always important to be on the pulse for new ways to offer better services to your clients. If you currently deliver facial injections or are looking to add this to your offering going forward, the Microcannula technique can be the best way to do this. A unique and effective way of offering facial filler injections, there are many benefits for your clients. Not only is it easier to administer, but it also doesn’t rip the epidermis when administered meaning it offers a painless procedure with the same great results. If you are looking to add a microcannula to your list of tools, you might be wondering just how to use this. Below we have put together some top tips on using the microcannula.

Why use the microcannula technique?

Thanks to its flexibility and round tip, using a Microcannula for dermal filler offers a host of benefits to your client. Due to there only being one injection point there is significantly reduced downtime and also few and infrequent side effects. The device is also simple to use meaning you can perform the procedure much faster and without causing any pain to the client. There is also less damage to the tissue meaning the chances of damaging blood vessels is much smaller and therefore less chance of bruising.

Top tips for using the Microcannula

Consider how flexible it is – When selecting the best microcannula for your practice it’s important the shaft has enough rigidity for precise placement but also enough flexibility to move effortlessly around. If you opt for a longer microcannula or one with a 30 or 27 gauge, this will be more flexible than shorter ones or those with a lower gauge of 22.

See how blunt the tip is – With a microcannula, the reason it doesn’t damage the skin so much is because it opens a clear path between the anatomic structure of the skin. You want to opt for one that is blunter so it is less likely to pierce vessels and will therefore cause less damage.

Find the correct sized microcannula – There are many different sizes of microcannula depending on the procedure you are performing. Be sure to research the best ones for the services you offer and how they compare in size to their traditional needle counterpart.

Consider where you are injecting – If possible, try to inject on the bone such as the jawline or chin to avoid scarring or trauma to the tissue. When injecting on tissue, keep the cannula moving and use a 22 gauge for the most effective result.

Use a dermal needle to make an entry point for the cannula that is slightly larger than the microcannula itself – You will need to make one single entry point for the microcannula, but ensure you make this slightly larger than the microcannula so it can fit comfortably. A benefit of using a microcannula is that you will only need one entry point and once it goes in, due to its blunt tip it won’t break any veins or arteries.

The microcannula is a very effective way of administering dermal filler. From improved manoeuvrability to fewer side effects and downtime, it’s better both for the aesthetician and the client respectively.
